SEASON ONE:
Battery-Powered Man
A web series by the QEII Foundation
Imagine being faced with the unimaginable. You have a choice. Say goodbye to everyone you love or receive life-altering medical care?
Don Ingram chose the latter. When facing his mortality, Don chose a major surgery that involved implanting a pump in his heart at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. The device, known as an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) is battery powered – meaning Don is a battery-powered man.
Life without a pulse has been interesting so far…
Don, pictured with his wife, Ethel, is our battery-operated man. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Don is doing his best to laugh through adversity. On his wall at home are the words “one day at a time,” a loving reminder from his partner on the journey. He loves bike rides with friends, spending time in the garden, and supporting others as an active member of his faith community.
